Calgary City Council is set to discuss new policy recommendations for short-term rentals, following a public engagement campaign. A study revealed around 5,000 short-term rentals in Calgary, which is less than 1% of residential properties. Proposed measures include introducing business licenses with tiered fees based on property type, a moratorium on new licenses when vacancy rates drop below 2.5%, extending the definition of short-term rentals to 180 days, and banning short-term rentals in affordable housing. A steering committee is also suggested to oversee these changes.
